3-Row Hybrid SUV
Now available as a three-row, seven-passenger SUV, the new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV shares a platform with its corporate cousin, the Nissan Rogue. That allows a sharing of technology that is helped not only by the economy of scale, but the ability to go further from an engineering standpoint. There are improvements from top to bottom making this one of the best engineered and best designed SUVs in Mitsubishi history.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Specs
Our Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine making 248 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. It is matched to a Continuously Variable Transmission paired with two electric motors making an all-wheel drive powertrain. In this form, it achieves a zero-to-60 mph time of 6.6 seconds, which is very competitive for its class.
An overnight charge with a 120-volt household outlet gave us a full charge of around 38 miles*. When using the gas engine and EPA test protocols, the Outlander PHEV should see 25* city/27* highway mpg on regular fuel. With both the electric motors and the gas engine, the EPA estimates you should be able to achieve about 64 MPGe*. That's miles per gallon equivalent (That's the "e" in MPGe).
There are other choices among the Outlander lineup. In case you are not sold on Hybrid model, the Outlander can be ordered with a basic gasoline-powered 2.5-liter inline-four-cylinder engine making 185 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. The gearbox is a continuously-variable-transmission, meaning that it doesn't actually "switch" gears as much as it moves several pulleys depending on the power needed to achieve a certain feed.Â
There are plenty of ways to add value to the equation. One is how the Outlander receives two-years of complimentary scheduled maintenance.
Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Design
The new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV features a modern grille that includes daylight running lights (DRL) which sit high on the corners of the vehicle. Just below are the actual main headlights. The rest of this Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) is handsome, thanks to shared resources from Mitsubishi and Nissan design studios. A blacked-out roofline helps define the overall appearance of this important vehicle.

Inside the Outlander PHEV
The interior of the new Outlander is fresh and outstanding in its design. Interior color choices include black cloth or leather seating surfaces, depending on trim level, with tan piping throughout the cabin. Trim levels vary but can include a 12.3-inch gauge cluster with head-up display and a 9-inch central console display. A Bose premium audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are along for the ride. And because you asked for them, the new Outlander includes traditional volume and tuning control dials. Sure, it's old school, but the bottom line is found in its simplicity. Knobs just work.
The second row offers limousine-style seating for three with plenty of legroom thanks to the movability of the seat. And if you need to carry more the third row stands at the ready.
