Outlander Sport: Size, Design & Exterior Features

A bold grille, angular bumper styling, and integrated LED lighting give the Outlander Sport a modern and aggressive look. Measuring approximately 171.9 inches in length, 71.3 inches in width, and 64.8 inches in height, the Outlander Sport is a great option for city drivers and commuters alike. The Outlander Sport is sure to turn heads in Champaign-Urbana with its "Dynamic Shield" front fascia, T-shaped rear LED taillights, and flared fenders. Depending on the trim level, the Outlander Sport comes with either 16-inch steel wheels with covers or 18-inch alloy wheels, with some special editions offering black or two-tone finishes. Heated power side mirrors and rear privacy glass enhance both functionality and aesthetics. The Outlander Sport blends compact dimensions with bold styling and useful features, making it a great contender in the subcompact SUV market.

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Inside

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport: Inside the Subcompact SUV

When it comes to the Outlander Sport, the inside has plenty of wiggle room for balancing budget and high-end materials. On lower trims, some surfaces are hard plastic, but plenty of accents that are not, like the HVAC controls, silver metal frames, trim, and metal look accents, appear on parts of the dash and panels.  Entry-level trims have standard cloth seating and grained soft padding that looks nice but won't be mistaken for luxury. Mid and higher trims get leather wrapped steering wheels and gearshifts. Some include leatherette or upgraded seat upholstery. The Outlander Sport is a little bit of a mixed bag for materials but overall looks quality and is built to last.

How roomy is the Outlander Sport?

The front seats of the Outlander Sport are pretty comfortable for most adults. Good headroom, ample legroom, and enough shoulder space to avoid feeling cramped. Long drives should be okay for taller passengers up front. The legroom in the rear is solid for medium height adults, but someone with long legs may find longer trips somewhat cramped. If you consistently need space for three adults across the rear seating, it will be a bit tighter. Keep in mind your current needs and if an SUV like the regular Outlander is better for them. As for the Outlander Sport's cargo space, compared to similarly sized SUVs, it is roughly equal to or better than most. Folding the rear seats gives a decent amount of cargo space (41.6 cu ft), so the tradeoff is good if you don't constantly need the rear seats full and cargo at the same time.

  • Legroom-First row: 41.6 inches, second row: 36.3 inches
  • Cargo Volume: Total behind first row: 49.5 cu ft; behind 2nd-row seats: 21.7 cu ft;

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport: Engine Options

What kind of engine does a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport have?

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport comes with two engine options, giving you the choice between fuel efficiency and increased performance. Most trims come standard with a 2.0-liter inline-four engine that puts out 148 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque, which is enough for daily commuting and your weekend Urbana adventures. If you're looking for a little more power, the Outlander Sport SEL trim offers a 2.4-liter inline-four that delivers 168 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with a smooth-shifting CVT (continuously variable transmission), and Mitsubishi's All-Wheel Control system comes standard across the board, which is great for handling wet roads or light off-roading. The ride is comfortable thanks to its independent suspension setup, and while it's not a performance SUV, the Outlander Sport is plenty for most driving needs.
