  • New Improved design
  • Larger, more inviting cabin
  • Improved safety tech
  • Third-row seating
  • Upcoming Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)

What is the new Mitsubishi Outlander?

The Mitsubishi Outlander is a seven-passenger, four-door hatchback SUV that has been totally redesigned for the this model year. Mitsubishi is part of a global alliance that includes automakers Nissan and Renault, and as a result, can now take advantage of parts and platforms developed by these automaking relatives. This results in rapid innovation and the ability to bring new products to market at a faster pace. The new Mitsubishi Outlander is the first Mitsubishi in the U.S. to benefit from this alliance.

The Mitsubishi Outlander is powered by a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that makes 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. It connects to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with an artificial gearing to give the impression the transmission is actually shifting. As in last year's model, the Outlander is standard with front-wheel-drive, but can be optioned with the available Super All-Wheel Contol (S-AWC) all-wheel-drive system that is uniquely-tuned by Mitsubishi. That powertrain system is complete with six specialized drive modes: Eco, Normal, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow and Mud.

New for the latest version of the Mitsubishi Outlander is an entire revision of the suspension system. This new calibration offers a more stable ride with roll control and larger disc brakes for improved handling and stopping power.

Currently, the Outlander is only available with the 2.5-liter Inline-4 engine. Later this year, a new Outlander PHEV version will arrive for those seeking to increase their green cred.

How about a look around the new Mitsubishi Outlander?

Moving the forward-thinking look of the Outlander is what Mitsubishi has done for the new model year. The new, luxuriously bold design and attention paid to the new Outlander leaves a distinct impression starting from the front dynamic shield rearward. It all helps to emphasize the Outlander's new, aggressive stance.

The look is a clear departure from Outlanders of the past, and unique from others flying the Mitsubishi logo. Given the name Bold Stride by Mitsubishi for the new look, the Outlander has certainly taken a few. New low placement of the headlamps at the corners where the grille meets the fenders. Aggressively-styled LED daylight running lights sit directly below the clamshell hood, while interesting body sculpting adds a distinctive appearance along the door panels.

The new Mitsubishi Outlander is available in base ES, SE, SEL, SE Launch Edition and SEL Launch Edition trim levels.

A look inside the Mitsubishi Outlander

An entirely new Outlander requires an entirely new interior. Here Mitsubishi doesn't disappoint. There is a new, upscale interior that elevates it against others in the segment. The dashboard features lots of soft-touch material as well as a nicely padded steering wheel.

As mentioned above, the Outlander is now a seven-passenger SUV. But please be warned, the rearmost seats are better suited for children. With a longer wheelbase, there is now more legroom in both the first and second rows. Folding the second and third-row seats forward will provide you with 80.3 cubic feet of cargo-hauling space. That's perfect for those weekend runs to the big-box stores to stock up on water and toilet paper.

Technology is along for the ride, too. Base ES and SE trim levels include analog gauges. Step up to the SEL or SE Launch editions to access a larger 12.3-inch Full LCD meter cluster display. Infotainment screens come in with an 8-inch standard display but step up to a 9-inch display when ordered with Navigation.

The new Mitsubishi Outlander gives you all this and more. Please find out more from our Mitsubishi experts at Napleton's Urbana Mitsubishi. Call today to see more and arrange a test drive today.
